Glaucoma
Glaucoma is one of the most common causes for irreversible visual loss. It involves damage to the nerve fibre layer of the retina that is typically caused by an elevation in the intraocular pressure. It can go undetected until extreme visual loss has taken place. People at risk for Glaucoma include those with a family history of glaucoma, diabetics, those with hypertension, and those of increasing age. In general, it is painless and asymptomatic. In Glaucoma the fields of vision progressively decrease till only a central island is left, which if left untreated, extinguishes vision leading to blindness.
The Glaucoma assessment program uncovers the earliest signs of glaucoma in suspected patients, as well as charts the progression of the condition, including serial optic nerve photography in patients who have already been diagnosed. Vitreoretinal
